Prize Process

Nominations from peers and colleagues only will be accepted. All submissions will be reviewed by the Prize Selection Committee and candidates must meet the below criteria.

Candidates must have made an original discovery or breakthrough in scientificunderstanding that has led to the better prevention, earlier diagnosis or new treatments for patients with cancer.

Candidates will be reviewed by the Committee and evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Long-term impact and benefit to treating cancer
  • Originality of Work
  • Overall long-term implications of work to society
    • Scientific
    • Medical

NFCR prefers to award a signal nominee for the Prize but may consider, on the rare occasion, the combination of nominees as final awardees.

 
 

Prize Recognition

The Prize recipient will be honored in a formal-dinner-Prizes ceremony and will also receive a $25,000 cash prize. The individual winning the Prize will receive international media and press attention and global recognition for their work. In addition, the Prize recipient will lead the Albert Szent-Györgyi Prize Selection Committee as honorary chairperson.
